Description
This is a photograph of a Republican Mural on Falls Road Belfast. The mural portrays armed IRA women, as depicted in a book by R. Tailon entitled "The Women of 1916"
Women were an integral part of the struggles in Northern Ireland. Although the IRA of the Troubles was not the same as the militia of 1916 Easter Rising, modern IRA sought to connect to the earlier struggle. Women during the Troubles were often considered combatants.
