Description

Photograph of a Unionist UVF mural depicting the leaving of the 15th Battalion (North Belfast) Royal Irish Rifles for France. Northern Ireland participated in WWI, and the mural is designed to depict the sacrifice of UVF officers who left and did not return from war. The mural is accompanied by a detailed description of the five men whose images appear at the top of the mural. The officers portrayed are Magookin, La Harpur, Forrester, Baird and Templeton.

Unionist murals attempt to connect the current UVF to the historical record of UVF honour and sacrifice in defense of Belfast.
